4-Stars "When one sets out to record an album with only a piano as partner, he (or she) had better have plenty to say. On Wherever You Go, There You Are, there's no question that the talented Michael Kocour easily transcends that yardstick."–Jack Bowers, All About Jazz
4-Stars "Kocour is a Rhodes master..."–C. Michael Bailey, All About Jazz "Kocour's eclectic choice of material, individualistic interpretations, and arresting execution make for a recording that lingers in one's consciousness long after the last note has sounded."–David Orthmann, All About Jazz |
"Listen to the lyricism, melodicism of this solo that seems to recall the spirit of Thelonious Monk without trying to imitate Thelonious Monk. I really love (Kocour’s) playing and I always have since he lived in Chicago. I especially like the segments that I played for you here and the theme of the album, bringing compositions by Monk and Bud Powell onto one program. I think that’s a very good idea. The album is called 'Speaking In Tongues.' Highly recommended it’s on Tempest.”–Neil Tesser |
